Burka Coffee Estates has created its own corporate responsibility program, consisting of a number of policy handbooks dealing with codes of conduct. It is this stringent regard for a conscientious approach to subjects like conservation, chemical application and social issues that has made the estates a frequent recipient of various awards and certificates.
Starbucks C.A.F.E. Practices
Starbucks Coffee Company initiated C.A.F.E. (Coffee and Farmer Equity) Practices to evaluate, recognize, and reward producers of high-quality sustainably grown coffee. C.A.F.E. Practices seeks to ensure that Starbucks sources sustainably grown and processed coffee by evaluating the economic, social and environmental aspects of coffee production against a defined set of criteria, as detailed in the C.A.F.E. Practices Guidelines.
UTZ Certified
UTZ Certified is one of the largest sustainability programs for coffee, cocoa and tea in the world. By working with a strict Code of Conduct, UTZ Certified sets stringent requirements for the farmers when it comes to the sustainable growing of coffee, cocoa and tea. Farmers are trained in the area of business skills, labour conditions and environmental protection, and their operational management is checked by independent third parties.
