One of the most famous Tanzanian artists is Eduardo S. Tingatinga, who began painting scenes of whimsical animals, on cardboard and fabric cut-offs. He was born in Mozambique, but during the 1960s he established an art form that became associated with his new homeland, Tanzania. Today, "Tingatinga" is the Tanzanian term for this form of art, known mostly in Tanzania, Kenya, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark.

With the mix of foreign cultural influences and the rich Tanzanian culture, Tanzanian musicians have become one of the best artists in East Africa. Legendary artists include Dionys Mbilinyi, and Sabinus Komba . Most notable is the mixture of traditional tribal influences such as drumming, and singing, with modern and foreign influences such as R&B. While many new techno influenced and rap based artists are emerging and hitting the airwaves, Tanzania’s treasure trove of traditional music remains largely neglected and consigned to the village sphere.
