A time-honoured family tradition


The Board of Directors of Burka Coffee Estates Ltd. consists of the shareholders and select family members. Burka’s current Managing Director has held this position since 1998, when he took over the time-honoured family tradition from his father. In this role, he leads an excellent team of local and international professionals, dedicated to the cultivation and conservation of Burka Coffee Estates. Two highly qualified and experienced agronomists support the director, namely the Group Manager and the Company Coffee Liquorer. Together, this team has the immense task of overseeing the coffee production, coffee quality control, export handling and customer care.  

Staff
Around 300 permanent staff
In total the company employs around 200 permanent staff, and approximately 300 daily staff. The permanent staffs are comprised of technical and security staff and administrative and farm employees. During the harvest season, the daily staff can swell up to 3,000 farm workers. All permanent staff is registered with the National Social Security Pension Fund and each estate has its own Labour Unions. Permanent staff and their families are provided with housing on the estates in 3 staff villages. Currently a large majority of permanent employees reside within the company estates. Employees residing outside estate premises are paid 15% of their basic salaries for housing allowance. Further benefits include on-site schooling, free nursery care, and medical care.
