Production Factors

Our coffee grows at the ideal average altitude of 1,400m above sea level. During harvest up to 3,000 local employees tend to the flourishing coffee trees planted in elegant rows. We know that our product is only as good as the factors that produce it. A close relationship with our employees is of paramount importance. Along with free housing, all permanent staff have access to 24 hour 1st Aid cover, free nursery school for their children, sports facilities and vegetable gardens.

Quality Control

Under the strict supervision of our highly experienced Quality Control Manager, coffee quality is continuously assessed according to three distinct and equally important criteria, first in its ‘raw’ form as a green bean, then as a roasted bean and finally by its “cupping” quality. While coffee grades are determined by the bean’s diameter, shape and density, the final quality of the product is a reflection of how well a coffee bean has been nurtured.

Coffee Export

Traditionally, Burka Coffee was sold at auction in neighbouring Moshi. In 2003, the Tanzanian Coffee Board allowed premium coffee growers to export their high grade coffees directly to foreign buyers. Over 80% of our premium green coffee meets the direct export regulations, as the strictest standards of quality control are applied from the farm, to the mill and finally to the export market. We maintain long term relationships with our buyers.
